Speech Pathology Week runs from 24 – 30 August 2025 and it’s a chance to celebrate the incredible power of communication. This year’s theme, “Impact through Communication,” highlights how being able to understand others and express ourselves is fundamental to connection, learning, and quality of life.

At Box Hill Speech Pathology Clinic, our team is proud to support individuals of all ages in finding their voice. Whether it’s a toddler learning first words or a student struggling with language in the classroom, Certified Practising Speech Pathologists can help unlock communication skills, which in turn, can open doors to learning, friendships, and self-expression.

Book Week and Communication
With Book Week dress-up days happening in schools and early learning centres, August becomes a fantastic opportunity to highlight how stories fuel language development. Dressing up as a favourite book character encourages children to talk, describe, imagine, and role-play, skills that are key for both speech and language growth.

Certified Practising Speech Pathologists often use books, props, and role-play in therapy sessions to:

– Encourage expressive language
– Develop sequencing and narrative skills
– Support social communication through storytelling and shared play

Book of the Year
Speech Pathology Australia has once again released its Book of the Year shortlist, which is a collection of outstanding Australian books chosen specifically for their contribution to language and literacy development.

These books aren’t just entertaining, they’re carefully selected to help children:

– Learn new vocabulary
– Understand sentence structure and storytelling
– Develop listening and comprehension skills
– Build a love of reading and communication

Reading with children, even just 10–15 minutes a day, helps to build essential language foundations that can support later literacy and academic success.

How Speech Pathology Makes an Impact
This Speech Pathology Week, Box Hill Speech Pathology Clinic is proud to recognise the ongoing impact speech therapy has on individuals, families, and communities.

Certified Practising Speech Pathologists support people of all ages to:

– Express themselves using spoken language, gesture or writing
– Understand the message of others
– Connect socially with family and friends
– Develop independence through effective communication

Whether it’s through reading a book, dressing up as a favourite character, or sharing a conversation, every day communication matters and every person deserves the opportunity to communicate confidently and clearly.

Our team at Box Hill Speech Pathology Clinic are here to guide, support, and empower you and/or your child every step of the way. Contact the clinic today to book a consultation or assessment.
